Man-made features and the way they interact with the natural environment hold a continual fascination for me. This landing stage at the northern tip of Fermain Bay is well used by local fisherman but on this particular morning I was alone when I arrived an hour before dawn.

During the day these steps would appear quite unremarkable, however, when photographed during that magical period of half-light before sunrise they appear as steps into or out of the mysterious deep.
